Rain postpones Indy Japan 300

MOTEGI (Japan), April 19: Rain forced organisers to postpone the Indy Japan 300 at the Twin Ring Motegi until Sunday, the third leg of the 16-round Indy Racing League series.

A little more than two inches of rain fell at the track over a 30-hour period through early Saturday, and workers laboured for hours in a bid to stem the deluge of water.

“We never got a situation where the racetrack was presentable and safe to race on. The drivers would not have been comfortable and been in a position to where we could have done anything today,” said league president Brian Barnhart.

It was the second postponement at the track in the past 10 years, following the 2000 race when showers forced the race to run on a Sunday, an event won by Michael Andretti.—AFP
