DPO, SHO issued notices on couple’s plea

By Our Correspondent

HYDERABAD, April 19: The Sindh High Court, Hyderabad circuit bench, here on Saturday issued notices to the DPO and the SHO of Jamshoro and some private respondents for April 22 on a petition filed by a newly-wed couple seeking protection.

According to petitioners Gul Bano and Ahmed Khan Mallah, she had married Mr Mallah of her own free will but her father and relatives were not willing to accept their marriage as they wanted to marry her to someone else.

Due to this situation, she moved an application before the DPO of Hyderabad on April 4 but no action was taken by him.

Then she filed an application under sections 22-A and B, Cr.PC, in the court of sessions judge who ordered registration of an FIR against private respondents if a cognisable offence was made out.

The private respondents were harassing the petitioners and had lodged a false case at the Jamshoro police station to get them arrested, Ms Bano said.

She alleged that the respondents had declared them karo-kari and made their lives miserable. She added that the police were harassing them. She requested the court to quash FIR no 106 lodged with the Jamshoro police under section 365-B, 366 and 34, PPC, against her and her husband on the complaint of her father.

She said that DPO should be restrained from harassing them at the behest of her relatives and the SHO should be directed to provide protection to their life, honour and property. She said that the act of the respondents of declaring them karo-kari should be declared unlawful.
