Lawyers seek arrest of April 9 killers

HYDERABAD, April 17: Lawyers observed ‘April 9 Martyrs Day’ across Sindh province on Thursday by boycotting court proceedings and staging protest demonstrations.
They demanded arrest of the culprits of Karachi killings and reinstatement of deposed judges of superior court, including Chief Justice of Pakistan, Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry.
In Hyderabad, lawyers boycotted proceedings of civil, sessions and high courts, hoisted black flag on the bar room and held a protest demonstration on the court premises.
They vowed to continue the struggle to get the deposed judges reinstated.
In Nawabshah, members of the District Bar Association boycotted court proceedings and held a general body in the bar room.
The participants through a unanimously passed resolution demanded immediate arrest of those involved in the Karachi killings.
They demanded reinstatement of deposed judges as promised in the Muree declaration and vowed to continue struggle for supremacy of judiciary.
They also demanded withdrawal of cases registered against political activists after the riots following the assassination of former prime minister Benazir Bhutto.
In Naushahro Feroze district, lawyers boycotted court proceedings in Kandiaro, Moro, Bhirya and Naushahro Feroze towns and staged a demonstration in Naushahro Feroze.
In Mirpurkhas, lawyers boycotted court proceedings throughout the district and hoisted black flags atop the bar offices to protest against April 9 killings.
‘April 9 Martyrs Day’ was observed in Umerkot district also where lawyers wore black armbands and hoisted black flags on bar rooms.
In Shikarpur and other cities of Sindh also, lawyers boycotted court proceedings.
