MUZAFFARGARH, April 16: Nurses at DHQ hospital did not attend patients on Wednesday in protest against alleged misbehaviour of an MPA with nursing school principal Aqsa Rani on Tuesday and demanded his immediate arrest.
Aqsa Rani said MPA Irshad Sial telephoned her and sought admission for a girl in violation of merit. On her refusal, Sial allegedly abused and humiliated her.
Later the principal informed her subordinates about the incident who observed a strike.
Nurses did not provide treatment to patients and serious patients were referred to Multan Nishtar hospital. Nurses also blocked traffic on Alipur Road at 6pm. After receiving information, the EDO (health) and police officials reached there and assured the protesters that security would be provided to them.
Talking to this correspondent, DCO Dr Akhtar Nazeer Warraich said he would submit an inquiry report to the higher authorities shortly.
On the other hand, MPA Irshad Sial alleged that Aqsa Rani was Christian and she was preaching Christianity to new nurses. She termed the allegation baseless.
Meanwhile, local PPP leaders were present at the office of nurses school and were trying for a compromise between the MPA and the principal.
Aqsa told Dawn that many facilities were missing at DHQ hospital while trainee nurses were working here.
