PESHAWAR, April 16: Incidents of crime reported in the first three and a half months this year shows a rise in crime rate in the city as compared to the corresponding periods in 2006 and 2007.

Figures collected from various sources revealed that 125 people were killed in the city. Of them, 41 were killed in the city circle, 31 in the cantonment circle and 51 in the rural circle.

The number of cases of attempt to murder was recorded at 129, of which 48 were occurred in the city, 29 in the cantonment and 52 in the rural area. Some 119 people were injured. Among them, 65 were injured in the city, 34 in the cantonment and 20 in the rural area.

Likewise, incidents of kidnapping also registered a rise. Four people were kidnapped in the city and three each in the cantonment and the rural area.

Twenty-one robberies were committed in Peshawar -- 13 in the cantonment, five in the city and three in the rural area.

Of 31 cases of theft reported in the metropolis, 13 each occurred in the city and the cantonment and five in the rural area.
