PJA elects office-bearers despite POA objections
LAHORE, April 15: Asif Iqbal Khan and Shahid Javed Malik were elected as president and secretary of the Punjab Judo Association (PJA) at a general council meeting on Tuesday.
The elections were held after the PJA obtained a stay-order restraining Munir Dar, the head of a three-member committee constituted by the Punjab Olympic Association (POA), from interfering in the affairs of the body.
The newly elected secretary said representatives of 17 affiliated districts out of 21 participated in the meeting and elected the office-bearers in place of outgoing President Farhat Hussain Saddique and Secretary Mahmood Naveed.
Also elected were Farhat Hussain (senior vice president); Chaudhry Shabbir, Mohammad Muzammal (vice presidents); Imtiaz Akram (treasurer).
Shahid said the POA had formed a body to conduct the elections which were not held despite announcement of dates twice. “The POA was using different tactics to delay the elections.”
Meanwhile, POA secretary Idris Haider Khawaja said the PJA was disassociated by the POA at a general council meeting in September.—APP
