Clash with Afghan troops over flour trucks

By Saleem Shahid

QUETTA, April 14: Two Pakistani and three Afghan troops were injured in a gunbattle at a checkpoint in Chaman on Monday.

Sources said the firing between the Frontier Corps and the Afghan National Army took place when FC men tried to intercept pick-ups smuggling flour to Afghanistan. The FC men opened fire when drivers ignored their signal to stop.

Afghan security forces rushed to the area and opened fire on the FC personnel.

Later, at a meeting with Afghan authorities in Chaman it was observed that the gunbattle was a result of misunderstanding. The sources said the Afghan authorities were informed that illegal movement of wheat and flour to Afghanistan would not be allowed. The border was re-opened after the ceasefire.
