LAHORE, April 14: Seven-goal Shah Qubilai Alam helped Rangers to defeat Guard Rice 10-8 in the final to win Emaar DG Rangers polo cup here on Sunday.

Guard Rice seized 2-1 lead in the first chukker as Qubilai’s brother Shamyl scored two. Asif Zahoor struck one for the winners.

In the second chukker, the winners were on the rampage as Qubilai hit four goals in the row to make the score 5-2.

Both the teams scored three each in the third chukker as the winners were leading 8-5. While Qubilai, Asif and Arham Asad banged home for the winners, Shamyl (2) and Taimur Ali Malik (1) reduced the margin for the losers.

In the fourth chukker, Shamyl restored the parity 8-8 by scoring three in a row, before Qubilai shone again by scoring back-to-back goals to complete his tally.

Earlier, half-goal handicap proved vital in the Hira Valves’

7½ – 7 win over Olympia Chemicals for third place.
