Businessmen protest lawlessness
By Our Staff Correspondent
FAISALABAD, April 10: The business community set up a protest camp at the Clock Tower intersection on Thursday against the police for its failure to maintain law and order in the district.
Started at 10am, the protest camp terminated at 4pm which was attended by All Pakistan Sizing Industries Association chairman Mirza Shafiq Ahmed, Anjuman-i-Tajran secretary-general Mehmood Alam, FCCI’s gems and jewellers standing committee chairman Muhammad Ali and lawyers.
Talking to reporters, Mirza Shafiq said that police had fallen down on their job to protect the life and property of citizens who were becoming an easy prey to dacoits even in broad daylight.
Instead of netting the criminals, he alleged that the police were playing the role of a silent spectator. He said most of the policemen were patronizing drug pushers, gamblers and ‘parchi’ mafia.
“People are being gunned down by dacoits, although they have hired the security guards,” he said.
City district nazim Rana Zahid Touseef reached the protest camp and ensured the protesters that strict measures would be taken to control the law and order.
