Deserving players will be tried in BD series: Malik

LAHORE, April 9: Pakistan captain Shoaib Malik said on Wednesday that new but deserving players would be given the chance to show their abilities in the ongoing series against Bangladesh after securing the rubber.

“Definitely, we will be trying out those players who are doing well in domestic cricket and who can be suitable replacements,” Shoaib said here on Wednesday.

The skipper added the formula of right-man-for-the-right-job would be followed for including new players in the team after winning the series.

“There are budding batsmen, bowlers and all-rounders who have produced brilliant performances in the domestic tournaments specially in the national one-day tournament and they will be given a chance to utilise their talent,” Shoaib asserted.

“Like any other cricket event, playing Bangladesh is also of great significance for us and I am glad that the team showed collective efforts to achieve a favourable result,” he added.

“We posted a big total and in one-dayers it is always difficult to chase 300-plus; and so this factor kept Bangladesh under pressure,” he stated.

“Winning a game does not mean that the task has been accomplished; there are still four games to be played and we have to show consistency to win the series,” he emphasised.

The captain while praising Mohammad Yousuf, Sohail Tanvir, Rao Iftikhar and Shahid Afridi for their fine performances in the match, urged the team to lift their fielding standards.

“It is a department in which, I still believe, we need to do more and it is only possible when we are physically tough and trim,” he said.

Shoaib further said that he always endeavours to justify his role as captain, adding he is delighted to have contributed with his 85-run knock that helped Pakistan record a big win.

About the Bangladesh team, the Pakistan captain cautioned his team that the tourists would be eyeing a comeback, while asking his squad to remain on guard.

Shoaib also admired the role played by coach Geoff Lawson.

“Lawson is a vital support to us and he is helping the players overcome mistakes. We are learning from each game and the learning process never ends,” he said.—APP
