Shop, three houses catch fire

MUZAFFARGARH, April 9: A shop and three adjacent houses were burnt when a fire broke out in the main bazaar market here late on Tuesday night.

Yaqoob said the fire burnt his stitching unit, rolls of clothes and some cash kept in the locker of his shop. He claimed that he had suffered a loss of Rs1 million. He said the fire erupted due to short-circuiting.

The area people informed the tehsil administration’s fire brigade, but it reached the spot after two hours. However, fire tenders from a local textile mills on Multan Road rushed to the spot and extinguished the fire.

About 200 traders protested against the fire brigade, Mepco and tehsil administration officials for their negligence. Anjuman Tajran President Syed Tahir Ali Shah held the Mepco responsible for the fire incident. — Correspondent
