CONAKRY, April 8: FIFA has told Guinea to fix security concerns at their national stadium or face forfeiting home advantage for their 2010 World Cup qualifiers, the Guinea Football Federation said on Monday.

The federation said world soccer’s governing body had told them to make several improvements to the September 28th stadium in Conakry or face having to play at a neutral venue when they start their qualifying campaign in June.

Guinea are scheduled to host Zimbabwe on June 1 and Namibia on June 22.

The Democratic Republic of Congo and Sierra Leone have already both announced they face similar bans on their stadiums.

The Congolese were handed a deadline to guarantee improvements to their stadium in Kinshasa or face having to move their qualifiers from the capital where they have previously played all their competitive internationals.

Sierra Leone said they planned to move upcoming matches against Equatorial Guinea and South Africa to nearby Gambia after their stadium was found to be a security risk.—Reuters
