HYDERABAD, April 8: The district government had decided to convert 100 more government primary schools into English medium schools during the next calendar year to provide quality education to the poor students, said District Naib Nazim Zafar Rajput on Tuesday.

He said at the inauguration ceremony of a 12-day training programme in managerial and administrative skills for the head masters of 110 newly-declared English medium primary schools at the Government Boys High School Latifabad Unit No.7, that the district government was gradually converting all the primary schools in the district into English medium schools and it had already converted 110 primary schools into English medium over the last two years. One hundred more schools would be converted into English medium during the next year, he added.

Mr Rajput, who is also convener of the district council, said that an independent survey had found that the education department had a skilled and talented teaching force but it failed to deliver desired output due to some managerial and professional hitches.

The training programme designed to overcome such hitches would train as many as 250 head masters in administrative and professional skills through two centres in Latifabad and Hyderabad City.

He said that the teachers of 110 newly-declared English medium schools had already been provided training. There was no question about the English being the main source of scientific education and technical know-how and its inevitability in facing the future challenges of the world, he remarked.

He said that the district government had introduced the system and it was now up to the teaching community, parents and students to make it a grand success through their joint efforts, commitment and motivation.

Latifabad Taluka Nazim Engineer Sabir Hussain Qaimkhani said that each individual could play an important role in promoting the quality of education. The conversion of 110 primary schools into English medium schools would pave the way for future development and prosperity, he remarked.

Mr. Q. Hakim, focal person to the district nazim for education, said that the district government had put in place some principles for the restoration of quality education. Training teachers in managerial skills was one of them, he added.

The programme was aimed at preparing a better management for a better education system, which was again essential for the future of the nation, he said.

Dr. Arif Razmi, a council member, said that the district government’s revolutionary steps for promoting education indicated the manner with which it had tackled all the problems. One could witness similar steps and performance in other social sectors also and the launch of hepatitis B and C preventive programme in the district was a case in point, he said.EDO of education Anwar Siddiqui, DO of education Gul Sher Nabi and a number of other education officers also made speeches on the occasion.
