By Our Correspondent
MIRPURKHAS, April 7: The district nazim, some three years back banned the sale of ‘gutka’ and ‘mainpuri’ which now have made a comeback in the district, including Mirpurkhas city, in connivance with police and narcotics dealers.
According to reports sale of Super Fine Gutka was prohibited after the protest by people but had restarted throughout the district since last few days following some secret deal with police and narcotics dealers.
With a population of 600,000people Mirpurkhas city was found thriving in sale of narcotics and injurious gutka at pan cabins and shops.
The Crime Control and Social Welfare Association office-bearers Khan Mohammad Panhwar, Syed Jafar Shah, M. Hashim and others said gutka had reportedly claimed 12 lives in taluka Kot Ghulam Mohammad.
They said District Nazim Mirpurkhas took strict notice and directed police authorities to take legal action against those selling gutka and mainpuri.
However, police instead of taking action were abetting owners of gutka factories.
They had demanded higher authorities to take action against factories manufacturing gutka and mainpuri in Shah Colony and Pak Colony.
ATTACK CONDEMNED: The violent behaviour against President PML-Q Sindh and former Chief Minister Arbab Ghulam Rahim in Karachi by the PPP supporters has been condemned by member PML-Q Sindh Council Haji Mohammad Saleem, City President Abdul Hameed Abbasi, Nazim Union Council Wali Mohammad Inqalabi, Naib nazims Malik Liaquat Ali, Nadeem Qureshi, Syed Liaquat Shah, and Badarunnisa of Ladies Wing.
They, in a joint press statement issued on Monday said the PPP claims itself ‘champion of democracy’ and been talking of reconciliation but the real face of the party has been exposed through its act. They termed it political terrorism.
They said due to such acts, reconciliation and democratic process will be harmed.
