Pietersen wants to play in IPL

Published April 6, 2008

LONDON, April 5: Kevin Pietersen has given a very strong signal yet that England players are sensing they are getting a rough deal by not being able to feature in the cash-rich Indian Premier League (IPL).

While Pietersen continues with his England career, the flamboyant right-handed batsman hinted he might change his priorities.

On one hand, millions of dollars have been splashed on the world’s prominent players, top England cricketers have had to watch from afar as their international assignments and central contracts prevent any participation in the IPL.

In general, they have taken the official position that England comes first. However, dissatisfaction is now emerging.

“It’s not something we can control, but it’s definitely something that the hierarchy needs to fix into our fixtures,” Pietersen told The Times. “You want your best players playing both for their country and for the IPL. You don’t want them choosing between the two. It’s silly to think that you’re losing up to a million [dollars] over six weeks.”—Agencies
