Aamir Atlas wins COAS squash title

By A Sports Reporter

ISLAMABAD, April 5: Aamir Atlas Khan of Pakistan defeated compatriot Yasir Butt in straight sets in the final of the sixth Chief of Army Staff (COAS) International squash championship at the Mushaf Squash Complex here on Saturday.

Yasir missed the chance to claim his first ever crown in the 38-minute fixture.

Aamir Atlas lost some initial points in the first game but came back good as Yasir could not face the former’s drop-shots.

It was 9-9 in the first game when Atlas turned the game in his favour with a stroke, finishing 11-9.

In the second game, Yasir displayed some inventive squash as the scores were tied at 10-10, but Atlas reasserted his authority by sweeping the game 12-10.

A close neck to neck contest was witnessed in the third game as the points table moved 7-7, 8-8, and 9-9.

Atlas took full advantage of some loose shots played by Yasir and won the last game 11-9.

Aamir Atlas pocketed $3,971 while Yasir Butt received $2,717 from the chief guest, Chief of Army Staff Gen Ashfaq Kayani.
