LAHORE, April 5: The Pakistan Railways (PR) has notified that the railway level crossing near Lahore Race Club (LRC) in Kot Lakhpat will be closed from April 10 (Thursday) due to what it called ‘financial constraints’.

This is the second level crossing in Kot Lakhpat area being closed by the PR after the one near Peco Factory over the last two months. The closure of the crossings will not only make the commuters to cover an additional four kilometres to reach the industrial area in Kot Lakhpat, Central Jail and Ministry of Industries offices like that of TUSDEC, the Pakistan Dairy Development Company and the Cement Research and Development Institutes but also result in severe traffic jams on all major arteries in southern Lahore.

Residents of Kot Lakhpat have appealed to the PR authorities to take notice of this humanitarian issue and order the re-opening of the Peco railway crossing and cancel its decision to close LRC level crossing.
