RAWALPINDI, April 4: An additional sessions judge (ASJ) here on Friday handed down death sentence to a man for killing his mother-in-law over a domestic issue about two and a half years ago.

ASJ Rana Masood Akhtar sentenced Muhammad Ikram to death, who killed Kalsoom Bibi in the Waris Khan Police area on November 2, 2005. The convict will have to pay Rs100,000 as fine and in case of non-payment, he will undergo one year imprisonment.

Meanwhile, court bailiffs recovered three children and handed them over to their mothers on Thursday evening.

District and Sessions Judge (DSJ) Attaullah Kosar appointed Malik Lal Khan as bailiff who raided the house of Shakeel in Kallar Syedan with the help of area police and recovered three- year-old Aysha.

Shazia, wife of Shakeel, moved the court for the custody of her daughter, who, she pleaded, was forcibly taken away by her husband.

The bailiff handed over the child to the mother and directed both parties to appear in the court on April 11 for the settlement of the custody of the child.

In another case, court bailiff Mirza Faisal raided the house of Shaukat in Taxila with help of area police and recovered two boys - Zaheeru Rehman, 4, and Anisu Rehman, 5, - and handed them over to their mother, Musarat Farooq Bibi.

Musarat had moved the court of the District and Sessions Judge against her husband for the custody of her sons. She alleged that Shaukat had detained the children in his house.

The judge directed the parents to be present in the court with the children on April 9, when their custody issue would be settled.
