Cotton arrivals drop by 8.5pc



By Our Correspondent MULTAN, April 4: A total of 11.331 million bales of cotton have reached the ginning factories till April 1, 2008 compared to last year’s 12.384 million bales, showing a production shortfall of 8.5 per cent.


According to the final report issued by the Pakistan Cotton Ginners Association (PCGA) here on Friday said that from 21 cotton-growing districts of Punjab a total of 88,11,568 bales arrived at the factories compared to last year’s 100,65,831 bales during the same period marking a steep crop shortfall of 12.46 per cent.

In nine districts of Sindh and Balochistan, the production had been so far estimated at 25,19,556 bales compared to last year’s 23,18,574 bales, showing a nominal increase of 8.67 per cent.
