PML-N convenes meeting

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Muslim League-N chief Nawaz Sharif has called a meeting of his party’s federal ministers and provincial presidents in Lahore on Friday to discuss a plan for implementing the Murree Declaration.

PML-N spokesman Siddiqul Farooque told Dawn on Thursday that the party was committed to the nation and the lawyers’ community on reinstating the deposed judges and implementing in letter and spirit the declaration signed by it with the Pakistan People’s Party.

He said the PPP wanted reinstatement of the judges through a comprehensive constitutional package but the PML-N would not accept a package against the spirit of the declaration.

Mr Farooque expressed the hope that the judges of the superior courts would be reinstated before the 30-day deadline for which the countdown had begun.

He said another purpose of the meeting was to devise a strategy for the implementation of the 100-day programme announced by Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani.
