Yasir topples top seed Beng Hee

ISLAMABAD, April 3: Yasir Butt of Pakistan created another upset defeating top seeded Ong Beng Hee of Malaysia to enter the semi-finals of the 6th Chief of Army Staff International Squash tournament at Mushaf Squash Complex on Thursday.

Yasir will meet Farhan Mehboob on Friday in his semi-final match. Ong Beng Hee is ranked at No 12 in the world as Yasir stands at No 58, elevated from 63, according to the latest international men’s squash rankings for the month of April.

Yasir with confidence won all the three games defeating low performing Malaysian with a score of 11-7, 11-5, 11-4 in 32 minutes decider.

Talking to Dawn Yasir Butt said that he has watched Hee playing in various tournaments closely and also noted his weak points which led to a win in the match.

About the upcoming semi-final match with six seeded Farhan Mehboob, Butt said he ha gained confidence after defeating Ong Bang Hee and would give a tough time to his rival.

Jamshed Gul, coach of Ong Bang Hee, said that it was not a good game displayed by the Malaysian as he delivered his 20 percent performance in the match.

Meanwhile, in last quarter finals Farhan Mehboob defeated Robbie Temple (England) 11-7, 11-2, 12-10.

Aamir Atlas Khan cruised into semi-final in 26-minute fixture thrashing Saurav Ghosal (India) 11-9, 11-3, 13-11.

In the day’s last quarter-final Jonathan Kemp (England) disposed off Shahid Zaman’s challenge in only 17 minutes. Kemp moved into semi-final with 11-2, 11-7, 11-3 scorline. Kemp will meet Aamir Atlas in the semi-final.
