Teams battle for semi-finals today

By Our Sports Reporter

KARACHI, April 3: The final round of matches in the Super Eight stage of the National One-day Cricket Cup is a battle for supremacy on Friday as teams vie for semi-final berths.

Rawalpindi Rams carry the hopes of the regional sides when they take on KRL in the Group ‘A’ fixture in Sheikhupura. A win for the Rams would steer them to the last-four stage.

But they face an uphill task since the KRL, who enjoy the best net run-rate, annihilated Wapda on Wednesday with Pakistan all-rounder Sohail Tanvir bagging seven wickets.

National Bank are also certain to qualify from this pool because Wapda, who are led by star Pakistan batsman Mohammad Yousuf, appear to be demoralised after the KRL bundled them out for 66 inside 14 overs the other day.

The situation in Group ‘A’ is very interesting as well with PIA, Habib Bank and SNGPL all in a position to reach the knockout round.

The bankers lost to SNGPL by a narrow margin of seven runs at the National Stadium on Wednesday despite a splendid century by their skipper Younis Khan.

SNGPL, meanwhile, will be looking to beat the winless Lahore Eagles by a comprehensive margin to up their net run-rate to stand any chance of qualifying.

Schedule (April 4):

KRL v Rawalpindi Rams at Sheikhupura Stadium.National Bank v Wapda at LCCA Ground, Lahore.PIA v Habib Bank at National Stadium, Karachi. SNGPL v Lahore Eagles at UBL Sports Complex, Karachi.
