Call to promote sufis’ thoughts
ISLAMABAD, April 3: Speakers at a seminar on mystic poet Baba Fareed on Thursday underlined the need for making efforts to promote thoughts of saints for creating harmony and healthy development of society.
The seminar was organised by Urdu Department of Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU).
Vice-Chancellor of the university Dr Mehmudul Hassan Bhutt said that sufis of the sub-continent had been source of inspiration for masses.
Their teachings offered solution to social, moral and economic problems.
He said in the present materialistic age, teachings of Baba Fareed were like a beacon of light for the youth.
Speaking on the occasion Prof Fateh Muhammad Malik, Chairman National Language Authority said that Baba Fareed was very generous and always helped the poor.
He asked the youth to follow the teachings of Baba Fareed who always preached tolerance, peace and harmony.
Addressing the seminar
Dean Faculty of Social Sciences Prof Dr Inamul Haq Javed said that besides Muslims, Hindus and Sikh equally regarded Baba Fareed owing to his spirituality and deep sufi thoughts.
He said Baba Fareed played a pivotal role in preaching Islam in the Sub-continent particularly in the Punjab.
Other speakers also spoke on the occasion and paid tribute to Baba Fareed.—APP
