ATTOCK, March 30: Two persons, including a woman, were killed and three others were injured when a gas cylinder fitted in a passenger pick-up exploded at a Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) station here on Sunday, police said.

The cylinder exploded when it was being filled up with CNG at a gas station near Lalazar Stadium, Attock city.

As a result, pick-up driver Iftikhar Ahmed, a resident of Sanjwal, and a passenger, Zahida Bibi from Dhoke Jogi, died on the spot, while three other passengers — Zarbat Khan, Allah Yar and Waqar Ahmed — sustained injuries.

On receiving information, District Police Officer (DPO) Tariq Hanif Joyia along with officials of the local administration and Edhi emergency services reached the scene and supervised the rescue work. The dead and injured were shifted to the District Headquarters (DHQ) hospital.

Later, bodies were handed over to their heirs. Doctors described the condition of the three victims as ‘out of danger’.

According to the DPO, preliminary investigation revealed that the incident occurred due to the use of substandard cylinder in the vehicle.
