Girls’ school building destroyed

DARRA ADAMKHEL, March 17: Militants blew up the building of a girls’ high school in Akhurwal area of Darra Adamkhel on Sunday night.

Local people said the explosion completely destroyed the nine-room building.

They said the school administration had earlier received letters warning them to close the institution.

Handbills purportedly distributed by local militants two days ago again warned women to stop going to schools and join seminaries.

They also said that gunmen had resurfaced and increased their activities despite the presence of hundreds of army and paramilitary troops in the area.

They said the army had taken positions on hilltops and paramilitary troops were patrolling the Indus Highway only during the daytime leaving the people at the mercy of militants at night.

The militants have destroyed three security posts and a government school building over the past three days.
