Ahmad shines

LAHORE, March 13: Four-goal Ahmad Nawaz Tiwana guided Rijas to a 7 1/2-5 win over Sakuf in the Low Goal Polo Cup here on Thursday.

Rijas, with a half handicap, were on to a brilliant start, taking a 3 1/2-1 lead in the first chukker, as Ahmad struck two goals and Jawad Jamil Malik one.

Kamran Zaidi could only reduce the margin for the losing side while the winners in the second chukker increased the lead to 4 1/2-2. Ahmad scored his third while Mohsin banged home for the losing side.

Scoring one goal apiece in the third chukker, the winners remained ahead by 5 1/2-3. Ahmad fired his fourth goal while Manzoor hit for the losing side. The fourth chukker saw four goals, two by each side, being scored, as Rijas came out as the victors. Jamil and Ali Rizvi pumped in one goal each for the winners while Kamran Zaidi found the target twice for the losing side.

In another match, six goals by Asif Tiwana stole the show as Nurpur defeated Sutelej Rangers by 7-5.

Tahir Aslam Awan scored the remaining one for the winners.

Arham Asad, Amanat Ali and Usman were the scorers for the losing side, with a two-goal handicap.
