Omar shines in Polo Cup

By Our Sports Reporter

LAHORE, March 10: Four goals each by Tomas Renioso and Omar Asjad Malhi helped Nestle Pakistan crush Pakistan Air Force (PAF) 9-4 in the opening match of the Pakistan Polo Cup, a new addition to the calendar of activities in the Lahore Polo Club.

The winners led the first chukker convincingly 3-1 as Tomas struck back-to-back while Omar fired home his first.

Earlier, Tauheed Ahmed, who scored both the goals for the losers, who had two goals handicap, pumped in one through field efforts.

Tauheed earned his second goal in the second chukker to reduce the lead to 3-2.

But from thereon, the winners dominated the game scoring six goals in a row to complete a thumping win.

After Renioso scored his third, Omar stole the show entering three to make it 7-4. In the dying minutes Renioso found the target for the fourth time to increase the lead 8-4, before Atif Tiwana added one goal in the fourth chukker to complete the tally.

A spokesman of the Lahore Polo Club said the tournament was most prestigious like the national polo championship and now it will be held every year.

In all, five teams are competing in the competition. They are: Askari Bank, Rangers, Nirala Sweets, besides PAF and Nestle.
