HYDERABAD, March 3: A university teacher has appealed to authorities to order arrest of assailants for seriously injuring his guest on February 22.

Speaking during a news conference at the press club here on Monday, Asif Raza Shah said he and Syed Arshad Shah were performing duty of polling agents of the PPP candidates, Amin Fahim and his son Makhdoom Jamiluzzaman at the polling station Goth Amin Lakho.

He alleged polling agents of the PML-F candidates Syed Fida Hussain Shah Lakhiari and Syed Anwar Shah Lakhiari started stamping ballot papers of their candidates over which scuffle took place. He said polling was stopped due to disturbance but resumed on the intervention of police.

Asif Raza Shah said on the evening of February 22 he was sitting in his Otaq with his guests Pir Abdul Wahab Shah Rashidi and others when they were attacked by Anwar Shah, Fida Hussain Shah, Paryal Shah and an unknown person.

He said Syed Abdul Wahab Shah Rashidi, a sepoy in the Pakistan Army was seriously injured while others ran away. He said the injured was removed to the Emergency Ward of Civil Hospital and later to the CMH and finally to Al-Shifa Karachi where he was still being treated.He said an accused Fida Hussain Shah had been arrested while others were absconding and issuing threats to him and his family. He appealed to the authorities to order the arrest of absconding culprits and provide protection to him and his family.

Conference: A conference will be held on April 19 at Bhit Shah to discuss issues confronting Sindh, said the Central Committee of Awami Tehrik in a meeting presided over by Rasool Bux Palijo on Monday.

The meeting decided to launch public awareness campaign on issues like artificial shortage of water, unemployment, usurpation of Sindh’s lands and income of Karachi harbour.

It alleged that under a planned conspiracy, lives of people had been made miserable and all institutions of the country destroyed. It said due to the wrong policies of General Pervez Musharraf, people had been deprived of democratic, constitutional government, while 63 judges of superior judiciary, including the Chief Justice of Pakistan removed.

It said America was now issuing direct threats of attack on Pakistan which clearly indicated the country was no longer a sovereign state. The meeting was of the opinion that massive rigging had been committed in general elections in Karachi, Hyderabad, Tharparkar, Sanghar, Khairpur and many other districts.

SPSC: The Sindh Public Service Commission on Monday announced the result of interviews of candidates held for the post of lecturer of Political Science male/female (BPS-17) between February 25 and March 1 at Karachi and Hyderabad and recommended names of successful candidates for appointment to respective posts.

The commission also announced the interview results of candidates for the post of Assistant Prosecutor General (BPS-17), Assistant District Public Prosecutor (BPS-17) and Assistant Director Monitoring, Implementation and Evaluation (BPS-17) from February 20 to March 1 at Karachi and Hydera-bad and recommended names of successful candidates for appointment to respective posts.
