PESHAWAR: Peshawar security beefed up

By Ali Hazrat Bacha

PESHAWAR, March 1: Keeping in view the frequent bomb explosions in different parts of the province the capital city police on Saturday carried out body search of suspected persons and also checked the pillion riders.

The information about entry of two alleged suicide bombers into the city further scared the people, especially the government employees in different departments.

A police official pleading anonymity told Dawn that though he had no information about the arrival of the suicide bombers at the city, but that the security measures had been beefed up.

The transfers of various police officials, he said was aimed at further tightening the security in the provincial capital.

He said at least eight new police checkposts were being opened within next couple of days in the troubled Badbher and Matni areas.

The official said the checkposts would help provide information to the main police stations about the movement of the militants in their respective jurisdictions.

Meanwhile, official sources in a government department told this reporter that the people entering the Fata secretariat, irrigation department, and home department and other offices, were thoroughly checked.

Some of the main gates of the operation and maintenance offices of the irrigation department at Warsak Road had been closed.
