GUJRANWALA, Feb 14: Several district bar associations in Punjab observed the `Khalilur Rehman Ramday day’ on Thursday to pay a tribute to the deposed judge of the Supreme Court.

In Gujranwala, bar members observed a complete strike and also took out a protest procession.

The lawyers gathered in the barroom and condemned the government and President Pervez Musharraf for deposing judges and detaining lawyers.

In a unanimous resolution, protesting lawyers demanded that all deposed judges, including chief justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, should be restored besides releasing his counsel Chaudhry Aitzaz Ahsan, Ali Ahmed Kurd and Justice Tariq Mahmood.

Later, they took out a rally from the district courts that ended at the Gondlanwala Chowk. Chanting slogans against the government, they pledged to continue their movement.

SAHIWAL: Lawyers boycotted the court proceedings as usually and hoisted a black flag atop the barroom building.

Starting a protest rally from the barroom, lawyers ended it at the same point after marching through different city bazaars.

The rally was led by DBA president Tahir Shabbir, secretary Iqbal Nadeem Rao, Mian Islamul Haq, Chaudhry Muhammad Akram Dial, Iftikhar Khawar and Malik Ghulam Hussain.

The protesting lawyers were carrying banners inscribed with demands for the restoration of the deposed judges. They also shouted slogans against President Pervez Musharraf.

Earlier addressing in the barroom, speakers paid homage to deposed Supreme Court chief justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, Justice Khalilur Rehman Ramday and others.

They vowed to continue the protest till the restoration of the deposed judges and release of detained lawyers.

SHEIKHUPURA: Paying a tribute to deposed judge Justice Khalilur Rehman Ramday, lawyers observed a complete hunger strike and stayed away from court proceedings.

They also took out a protest rally which was led by bar president Malik Nasrullah Khan Wattoo and other senior lawyers.

Speaking on the occasion, the bar president said that Bushra Aitzaz would address the lawyers at 11am on Friday (today).
