PESHAWAR, Feb 1: The two Nigerians, who were kidnapped for a ransom of $100,000 from Islamabad last year, were recovered here on Friday.

The capital city police officer of Peshawar, Tanvirul Haq Sipra, during a press conference, said the foreigners, Mr Kenechuwu and Ms Miriam, were brother and sister and were kidnapped from Sector G-10, Islamabad on October 7, 2007. They were dealing in cloth and used to come to Pakistan for business.

Both had been in chains since then, which caused swelling of their hands and legs. “The woman was still in chains as it could not be opened due to the swelling of her legs,” the police official said.

They were allegedly kidnapped by three brothers identified as Mustafa, Abdur Rehman and Ejaz, who had kept them in a house in Regi village, and continuously tortured them, he said

“Local police recovered them,” he said, “otherwise, it required a joint-effort by both the countries.” The victims had undergone severe mental torture and stress.
