PESHAWAR, Jan 18: The provincial government has directed law enforcement agencies to restrict the movement of people in sensitive areas on 9th and 10th of Muharram (Saturday and Sunday).

According to a senior official, in order to make security more stringent, the government has issued new directives to police and other law enforcement agencies in this regard. “It is not going to be a curfew but public movement would be restricted and police and other law enforcement agencies have been directed to physically check all and sundry, and check all vehicles plying on these two days,” the official said, requesting he not be named. “Security is going to be very, very high,” he said.

The official said that check posts had been established on all roads and all vehicles and people entering the city would be subjected to physical check. Security had been beefed up following the suicide bombing in Peshawar that left twelve people dead and over two dozen wounded. Security would be on high alert in Peshawar, Kohat, Hangu and Dera Ismail Khan while security arrangements in Haripur had also been tightened up. The police would be assisted by the Frontier Constabulary, the Frontier Corps while army had already been deployed in the regions.
