LAHORE, Jan 13: The investigation police have yet to find any clue to the youngster who kidnapped singer Ali Zafar and his fiancee six days ago in Defence and later released them after receiving Rs2.5 million from their parents.
Zafar’s car, which was also taken away by the kidnapper, had been found outside the shrine of Hazrat Data Ganj Bakhsh on Sunday, the Defence B police claimed.
The police said the FIR was initially sealed on the request of Zafar after the suspect hurled life threats at him for disclosing the incident to the police, but later it was de-sealed on the intervention of the police higher-ups.
It was on Monday last when Zafar, a resident of U-Block (Defence) and his fiancee Ayesha, of J-Block, left a CD shop in H-Block main market and reached their car in the early hours and an armed man held them up and asked them to drive the car according to his direction.
The kidnapper made the victims move from place to place for three hours and asked both of them to talk to their parents for arranging Rs2.5 million ransom, otherwise, he would shoot them.
The youngster, apparently belonging to a well-off family, also kept contacting his accomplices by his cell phone, the police officials told Dawn.
Zafar and Ayesha made phone calls to their parents and asked for ransom to which they agreed, but they did not inform the police about the whole matter, the official said.
“I have been keeping an eye on your activities for some time. My earlier plan was to demand Rs15 million ransom, but later I changed my mind and am now demanding Rs2.5 million,” Ali Zafar told police, quoting the kidnapper as having said.
They travelled from Defence to Cavalry Ground, Kalma Chowk to Jinnah Hospital and to Multan Road via motorway. On and on they went and from The Mall they reached the Gulberg’s main boulevard by the time the ransom was agreed.
The ransom was paid by the parents of Ayesha to the kidnapper in front of a shopping plaza in Gulberg and the kidnapper left the singer and his fiancee at Rivaz Garden, driving away with their car and taking away the bagful of money and Zafar’s cell phone.
The police said the victim informed the Rescue 15 about car theft and concealed the kidnap story. They said Zafar was reluctant to lodge an FIR due to fear of threat by the kidnapper and media publicity, but later got registered a case on the police insistence.
