Asif, Dhruvpal excel in Polo Cup


LAHORE, Jan 3: Four-goal Asif Tiwana and a half goal handicap were vital in giving Goodwill an 8- 1/2 -8 win against Allied Bank Limited (ABL) in the Polo Cup here on Thursday.

Ahmed Ali Tiwana (2), Tanvir Tariq (1) and Azam Hayat Noon (1) were the other scorers in the winning side besides Asif.

The losing side had the Indian national Dhruvpal Godara playing for them. He scored seven goals, including four in the last chukker, which made it anyone’s game till the last minute. But Ahmed Ali Tiwana’s goal in the fourth chukker rescued the winners from Dhruvpal’s wrath.

In the other matches, three goals by Umar Sadik enabled Rangers to beat World Call 6- 3 1/2. Rehmat Nadir (2) and Amanat Ali (1) were the other scorers.

Azhar Ali (2) and Mian Shahzad Aziz (1) were the scorers for the losing side, who had a half goal handicap.

Three-goal Taimur Mawaz Khan helped Izhar Constructions beat Karachi Riding School 6-5 1/2. Ali Riaz (2) and Saqib Mawaz Khan (1) were the other scorers for the winners, while the losers, with a one and half goal handicap, scored through Sameer Habib Oberoi (2), Bilal Haye (1) and Abdul Haseeb Mehta.

Four goals by Haseeb Minhas guided Emaar to a 6-5 1/2 win against Polo De Sufi. Naveed M. Sheikh and Ashfaq Ahmed were the other scorers. Hissam Ali Hyder (4) and Hamza Mawaz Khan (1) were the scorers for the losing side, who had a half goal handicap.—Sports Reporter
