LAHORE, Dec 31: The one-day postponement by Pakistan Election Commissioner in announcing any possible change in the Jan 8 general elections schedule in the county, forced the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Monday not to announce any change in the schedule of the home series against Zimbabwe, starting from Jan 12 and the fresh schedule of the last round of the Quaid-i-Azam Trophy matches.

The last round, in which nine matches were being played across the country, had to be postponed in between because of the tragic death of the former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto on Thursday.

“A change in the schedule of Zimbabwe tour may be made in case of any change in the date of Jan 8 general elections. But at the moment we can’t make comment since the Election Commissioner has deferred the decision regarding the change in the date till Tuesday,” PCB Media Director Ahsan Hameed Malik told Dawn.

He said similarly the PCB was not in a position to resume the Quaid-i-Azam Trophy’s matches due to the same reason. However, he said all the matches of the last round would be replayed, due to their importance on the final standings of the teams.

“Due to the unavoidable circumstances in the country the last round matches of Quaid-i-Azam Trophy which were either not completed or not started will be replayed since the results of these matches have impact on the final standings of the teams,” the PCB media department later said in a press release.

“The management of PCB has decided to replay the last round matches to give equal chance to all participating teams. The revised schedule and venues will be announced shortly after making all the logistic arrangements at concerned venues,” the press release said.
