DADU: Clash between SUP, PPP activists leaves 10 injured

DADU, Dec 23: Ten activists were injured in an armed clash between PPP and Sindh United Party workers in Manjhand town on Saturday.

Reports said that when a Sindh United Party election rally, led by Syed Jalal Mehmood Shah, candidate for NA-233 and PS-71, entered the Manjhand town, PPP workers and SUP workers raised slogans in favour of their candidates this led to a clash in which guns, clubs and exes were used. Ten workers belonging to both parties were injured.

The injured Imran Kachhi, Fahad Ali, Asad, Ali, Shahbaz, Mir Mushtaq, Habibullah, Mujahid Malik, Irshad Memon and Niaz were admitted to local the taluka hospital in Manjhand.

A large number of SUP activists staged a demonstration outside Manjhand police station and demanded arrest of PPP workers.

After the clash, harassed citizens of Manjhand town closed their shops.

Syed Jalal Mehmood Shah told journalists that his rally was crossing from Manjhand town peacefully but PPP workers attacked the SUP activists. He said that PPP workers hurled stones which led to the clash.

PPP worker Mohammad Saleh Memon said that SUP workers were trying to create a law and order situation in Manjhand. He accused the SUP workers of attacking the PPP activists.

PPP candidate for NA-233, Nawab Abdul Ghani Talpur, arrived at the spot and also visited the injured in the hospital. Mr Talpur said that PPP has a strong vote bank in Jamshoro district, hence SUP leader was trying to create law and order situation.

DEMO: A large number of lower staff of education department staged a demonstration and observed a token hunger strike outside the local press club here on Saturday to protest against non-payment of their salaries for the last four months. They were led by affected employees including Abdul Rashid Zour, Jan Mohammad Leghari and Mohammad Saleh Abbasi.

They said that 450 persons were appointed by the then Dadu EDO education Professor Abdul Jalil Akhund from grade 1 to 4 four months ago. They said they were performing their duties daily but since last four months they were not paid.

PORTRAITS REMOVED: Some people removed portraits of the PML-Q candidate for NA-232 and PS-73, Liaquat Ali Jatoi, and banners and flags from different parts of Dadu city late on Saturday night.

At a press conference on Sunday, Liaquat Ali Jatoi claimed that the majority was supporting him in Dadu district, hence PPP leaders were afraid of him. He accused them of removing banners and his portraits in Dadu city.

He demanded of the Election Commission to take action against persons involved in this act.

Meanwhile, a large number of PML-Q workers took out a rally in Dadu, staged demonstration and blocked the Dadu-Larkana road for three hours.

They were led by PML-Q leaders Saeed Ahmed Soomro, Ashique Hussain Zour, Syed Fida Hussain Shah and Saeed Ahmed Soomro. They were demanding action against those who had removed PML-Q banners and portraits of Liaquat Jatoi.

Manjhand Ittehad: Leaders of Manjhand Ittehad have alleged that henchmen of Jamshoro district nazim Malik Asad Sikandar had unleashed a reign of terror in their area because they had announced their support for Sindh United Party leader Syed Jalal Mehmood Shah in the general elections.

Speaking at a news conference at the press club here on Sunday, the chairman of the Ittehad Haji Mohammad Ishaque Mallah, Pir Jan Mohammad, Haji Hussain Memon, Zanwar Sabz Ali Khoso, Akram Khoso and others said that Manjhand was a peaceful town but the miscreants had turned the town into a battle ground through their terrorist activities.

They said that these people who were supported by the Sardars, Waderas and Patharidars, were trying to create tribal disputes.

They said that terrorist activities were at peak in Manjhand town.

They alleged that on the second day of Eid, Saleh Memon, Pandhi Tangiani, Sikandar Khoso and Ghulam Hussain Mureedani along with two dozens armed persons had attacked councillor Habibullah Mallah and tortured him. They said that when the people intervened.

They said that contrary to the facts, police registered a false case against 14 villagers.

They feared bloodshed in the town and appealed to the authorities to take notice of the terrorist activities in Manjhand.

Earlier, a large number of people of Manjhand also staged a protest demonstration outside the press club against the alleged terrorist activities in the town.
