ISLAMABAD, Dec 14: The final list of candidates contesting the elections will be issued on Sunday, a day after the last date for withdrawal of nomination papers.
Election Commission Secretary Kanwar Muhammad Dilshad said that the nine Appellate Tribunals, comprising high court judges, had completed the process of hearing appeals against acceptance or rejection of nomination papers.
He said over 13,000 papers had been filed, against 10,000 candidates in 2002.
Computerised electoral rolls for the polls would be posted on the EC website in two weeks, he said.
About poll arrangements, he said the commission had provided 430,000 transparent ballot boxes to the district headquarters and 550,000 polling personnel had been trained by foreign experts to make the process free, fair, impartial and credible. He said 1.5 million copies of a booklet containing instructions for polling agents would be provided to political parties in a few days.
Kanwar Dilshad said there were over 81 million registered voters while the earlier list had some 5,500,000 voters.
