US envoy Meets Nawaz

Published December 4, 2007

LAHORE, Dec 3: US Ambassador Anne W. Patterson said on Monday that the United States wanted the elections in Pakistan to be free, fair and transparent.

Talking to journalists after meeting former prime minister and PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif at his Raiwind residence, she said that Washington would remain neutral hoping that elections would be held in a fair manner.

She termed doffing off uniform by President Pervez Musharraf a good omen for Pakistan.

During the meeting, the former prime minister elaborated the reasons due to which the PML-N had decided to boycott the elections.

Nawaz Sharif said that the fair and transparent elections could not be possible without the reinstatement of judges. —APP
