KARACHI: Cops continue to ignore court notices

By A Report

KARACHI, Dec 3: Additional District and Sessions Judge-II (Central) Nelofer Shahnawaz Azimi on Monday issued fresh non-bailable warrants for the arrest of an SI and bailable warrants for an ASI of Sharifabad police station who have not been responding to several court notices asking them to testify in a fatal accident case.

Two students of Apwa College, Nida Afzaal and Ravia Beenish, were killed and many people were injured when a bus of 5C route with registration number JA5983 went out of the control of its driver and hit the people standing near the college at Karimabad on Feb 19, 2002.

The court also issued notices to Madeeha, Shahida and Saher Afshan, who were among the students injured in the accident.

SI Zafar Iqbal and ASI Irfan have not been appearing in the court to record their statements as prosecution witnesses for the past five years.

On Nov 13, the court had issued non-bailable warrants for the SI and bailable warrants for the ASI, besides summoning the three students to appear in the court on Dec 3. However, none of them turned up to testify on Monday.
