By Munawer Azeem

ISLAMABAD, Nov 24: The capital city was put under high vigilance after two suicide attacks in Rawalpindi on Saturday.

A senior police official told Dawn that high alert had already been declared in Islamabad since January and presently security measures were further increased.

Vigilance and surveillance in and around the capital have been enhanced, and more law enforcement personnel have been deployed, he said.

“We review security measures in and around the capital city including sensitive government, armed forces, intelligence, diplomatic and foreign instillations along with markets, shopping centres, public parks and some education centres,” the official added.

Four new police pickets including one at F-10 have been established on Saturday and patrolling of the police had been increased.

The newly established Mohafiz Squad with 29 motorcycles was also taking part in patrolling along with the police and Rescue- 15 personnel.

“Snap checking has also been started in the capital to make sure nobody escapes police checking,” he said, “there are more than 70 police check posts in and around the capital to keep an eye on suspicious people and vehicles.”

Physical search of “suspicious people and vehicles are being conducted at all check posts while metal detector is also used at some places”, he added.
