Call for containing Parachinar unrest

Bureau Report

PESHAWAR, Nov 17: NWFP Governor Ali Mohammad Jan Aurakzai on Saturday directed law-enforcement agencies to control violence in Parachinar by putting security forces in action.

The governor presided over a meeting which reviewed the law and order situation in Parachinar and Malakand.

In a related development, Kurram Agency political agent Fakhre Alam was transferred and directed to report to the Establishment and Administration department.

Haripur District Coordination Officer Syed Zaheer-ul-Islam Shah has been appointed political agent Kurram.

The governor was informed that the situation in Parachinar was under control and efforts were being made to contain the violence in some of the surrounding areas. The meeting suggested short and long-term measures to bring normalcy to the agency.

Mr Aurakzai directed the political administration to negotiate with local elders and mobilise the people against militants.

He said that the administration and law-enforcement agencies should be proactive in their action particularly with regard to the spill over effects of the ongoing violence.
