Pind De Kuri again electrifies admirers

By Aftab Gilani

LAHORE, Nov 14: With the reputation of being a reliable runner, fancied filly Pind De Kuri stormed home to complete a hat-trick of victories during Lahore Gymkhana races at the Racecourse on Wednesday.

Owned by the Lahore Race Club (LRC), the filly from unknown pedigree showed courage, consistency, speed and soundness to win the third consecutive race to become the first-ever unknown pedigree animal to earn this distinction.

She beat high-pedigree bay filly Tosca by one-and-a-half lengths.

Murad King and Shikari completed the frame among eight runners.

This was the fourth race of the day, the Chakwal Plate Class-VI Division-II.

Her victory gave jockey M. Hanif a fine double as he also piloted home fancied Sher Khan in the third race of the day.

Rank outsider chestnut horse Sohna Billoo won the supporting and fifth race, defeating Weldon Shogun by half a length at the finishing line.

Raging favourite three-year-old colt Cheeta Aya put up a dismal show, leaving race-fans wondering. Ridden by Aamir Pervaiz and trained by Chaudhry Mohammad Rafiq, Cheeta Aya finished off the frame.

LRC stewards ordered an inquiry into the poor running of the colt and stopped its participation in races till outcome of the inquiry.

Trainer Rashid Aziz stole the limelight as he sent out two winners — Mah-e-Noor in the first race and Sohna

Billoo in the fifth.

The stewards cancelled the sixth and the feature event of the day’s card anticipating lack of competition as the runners were not fancied by their respective stables.

Two favourites –- Sher Khan and Pind De Kuri –- triumphed while the other three events were lifted by long shots.

All the events were contested over 1000 metres.
