Toss won’t matter, says curator

GWALIOR, Nov 14: Toss will not be a factor for the fourth One-day International between India and Pakistan here on Thursday, according to the venue’s chief curator who foresees a high-scoring encounter.

“It is a good batting track and toss will not be a factor as the team batting second won’t face any problem while chasing score. The ball will come nicely to bat and bounce will be of waist height,” Samundar Singh Chauhan said, while giving finishing touches to the pitch at Captain Roop Singh Stadium for the day-night encounter.

“The only problem will be dew as it is onset of winter season here. Right after 5.30pm dew starts gathering on grass, but we will be using a special spray that was also used for Mohali ODI (last Thursday). Spray won’t allow dew to settle on grass blades. Dew will precipitate down to root of grass.

“We don’t want any side movements off track. The presence of grass would have helped bowlers to extract side movements. But we want the match to be high-scoring. By the time match starts the grass will dry out,” Chauhan said.

This is the first international match to be played on this track.

“I am hopeful Thursday’s match will also produce runs in excess of 600,” he said.
