Boycott of courts continues

QUETTA, Nov 14: Lawyers boycotted court proceedings for the ninth consecutive day on Wednesday and reiterated their demands for the restoration of the pre-emergency judiciary, lifting of emergency and release of political and human rights activists.

The protesting lawyers have not been appearing before the courts on the call of the Pakistan Bar Council.

They reaffirmed their pledge not to appear before the PCO judges.

Earlier, Kamran Murtaza, a senior lawyer, chaired a joint general body meeting of the Balochistan Bar Association and Balochistan High Court Bar Association in the district bar room.

Mr Murtuza told newsmen that the lawyers had decided to continue their boycott.

The senior lawyer said the meeting expressed satisfaction over the nationwide protest of lawyers.

He hoped that if the lawyers maintained unity in their ranks then their movement against the unconstitutional measures of the military dictator would become successful.

Mr Kamran claimed the proceedings of the courts were boycotted in Quetta, Pishin, Loralai, Zhob, Nushki, Kalat, Khuzdar, Panjgur, Sibi and other districts headquarters.
