PESHAWAR, Nov 9: Three people were killed and two others, including a former provincial minister, were critically injured when a suicide bomber blew himself up in the house of Federal Minister for Political Affairs Amir Muqam here on Friday afternoon, police said.

The blast occurred at around 3.45pm when the minister was having a meeting with some of his associates at his home in Hayatabad.

Mr Muqam, who is also provincial president of the ruling PML, escaped unhurt.

The attacker’s body parts were scattered around different portions of the house. His head was found on the second storey of the building.

Windows, doors and furniture of the house were destroyed. A part of the belt used by the bomber was found in the lawn.

“Our morale is high and we are ready to face such attacks,” Mr Muqam told reporters in his house.

“I returned from a meeting and was sitting with some guests in the drawing room when we heard a loud explosion which ripped through the entire house. When we rushed outside we saw bodies of security personnel lying in the porch and veranda,” he added.

According to eyewitnesses, the bomber blew himself up when police stopped him from entering the house. The gate was riddled with pellets and ball bearings.

The dead were identified as Tariq, Arif and Farooq Shah, all policemen. The injured included a former provincial minister, Pir Mohammad Khan. They were taken to the Hayatabad Medical Complex where their conditions are stated to be critical.
