ISLAMABAD, Nov 8: The police have registered a case against leaders and activists of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) on the charge of violating Section 144 and for pelting stones on the police, resulting in injuries to two government officials.

The case was registered on the complaint of sub-inspector Mohammad Ishaq, who stated that he, along with personnel of the Islamabad police and the Punjab constabulary, had been deployed at D-Chowk when around 400 persons, led by Nayer Hussain Bukhari, Nahid Khan, Tariq Amin, Prince Naveed, Shujhat Haider Naqvi, Iftikhar Shahzada, Shahzadi Kousar Gilini, Sajad Haider and Zubida Tasleem Kousar, appeared at the Express Chowk and pelted stones on police personnel.

As a result, the additional deputy commissioner (revenue), Malik Awan and a constable of the Punjab constabulary, Mohammad Ramzan, were injured, he said, and PPP’s Mr Naveed was also injured.

The leaders and activists of the PPP violated Section 144, imposed in the capital, and gathered in front of the Parade Ground, chanting anti-government and anti-Musharraf slogans, he added.

They also challenged the law enforcement agencies by crossing the police barricades and broke the police line made at the Parade Ground to prevent political activists from entering.

The police have arrested Sajad Haider, Tariq Amin and Mr Naveed.
