KARACHI: Radiation hazards report clarified

KARACHI, Nov 7: The Provincial Disaster Management Authority Chairman, Syed Anwar Haider, contradicted a report published in the Tuesday issue of Dawn under the headline People living near Kanupp exposed to radiation.

According to him, he did not talk about any radiation effects but while answering a question he only mentioned that 200-acre additional land had been allotted by the government for Karachi Nuclear Power Plant to cover the area where any radiation effect might occur.

The PDMA chairman, who is also a senior Member Board of Revenue, Sindh, said after the first session of Disaster Management Training Workshop conducted by the UNDP on Nov 5, some journalists asked about the measures taken to check radiation effect of Kanupp. I told them that 200 acres additional land has already been allotted by the government for Kanupp to cover the area where any radiation effect may occur, he added.—PPI
