Pakistan in toughest group at AFC qualifiers


KARACHI, Nov 3: Pakistan will take on arch-rival India in qualifying rounds of the 36th AFC U-19 Youth Championship to be held in Iran on Nov 11 at the Paas Stadium, Tehran.

Pakistan is placed in Group B which is the toughest in the event. Besides India, Pakistan will take on Iran (Nov 6), Asian powerhouse Oman (Nov 9), Lebanon (Nov 14) and Bahrain (Nov 17).

Pakistani team will leave for Iran on Sunday (today). The top-two teams from each of the seven qualifying groups of AFC U-19 Championship will advance to the finals along with the best third-placed team.

All the matches will be played in one centralized venue hosted by one country in the group. The top-four finishers of AFC

Youth Championship 2008 will advance to the 17th FIFA World Youth Championship 2009 at Egypt.—Agencies
