GUJRAT, Nov 3: A murder suspect wanted by Rawalpindi and Gujrat police in separate incidents was gunned down while a policeman was injured in an ambush on prisoners’ van by four unidentified assailants near Pabbi area of Sara-i-Alamgeer on Saturday.
Abrar Hussain, a resident of Dhok Elahi Bakhsh, Rawalpindi, was being taken to a Rawalpindi court from District Jail Gujrat for hearing of a murder case against him for killing Sajjad in Ganj Mandi police precincts. Sajjad was said to be a brother of former Rawalpindi tehsil nazim. According to sources, the Gujrat police also wanted Abrar in couple of murder cases.
When the prisoners’ van reached near Pabbi, a mountainous area on Grand Trunk Road, four assailants who were chasing the van on a car without registration number shot at its tyres, which got burst.
The guards deputed at the van retaliated and Abrar was killed and constable Mazhar Iqbal was injured in the ensuing shootout between policemen and assailants, who fled. The Sara-i-Alamgeer Sadar police have cordoned off the area. Gujrat SP Investigations Javed Iqbal and Kharian ASP Asad Warraich also reached the scene.
A case has been registered on the complaint of head-constable Muhammad Rafique of Rawalpindi police guarding the ambushed van.
Abrar originally belonged to Havelian area of Abbotabad where he had enmity. His rivals have also murdered his two brothers.
Later, his body was given to his family after an autopsy at Kharian THQ Hospital.
