KARACHI, Nov 3: Soon after getting degree awarding status and becoming federally chartered institution of the country, the Dawood College of Engineering and Technology announced the schedule for admission to its BE First Year Electronics, Chemical, Metallurgy & Material, Chemical, Industrial Engineering & Management and Architecture.
According to DCET Public Relations Officer Mushtaq Shaikh, the date of issuance of forms and prospectus for batch 2007-08 admissions is Nov 30. Last date for submission of application forms is Dec 20. Entry tests will be held in Karachi and Islamabad simultaneously on Jan 6, 2008. Interviews will be conducted and original documents will be scrutinised on Jan 21.
The provisional list of selected candidates will be issued on Jan 30 and classes will commence from Jan 31.
The prescribed application forms are available for Rs1,025, including Rs25 as bank’s commission, at the designated branches of the National Bank of Pakistan. Candidates from urban and rural areas of Sindh, Punjab, the NWFP, Azad Jammu & Kashmir under regular scheme and children of IHK refugees, professional engineers/ architects, DCET staff can also apply on reserved seats for Diploma of Associate Engineer.
Regular scheme
The basic qualification for first year admissions is HSC (Pre-Engineering) passed after the year 2003 with at least 50 per cent marks secured from any board of intermediate education in the country or equivalent examination by a degree awarding institution recognised by the Higher Education Commission or equivalent certificate from the chairman of Intermediate Board Committee, Islamabad.
Self-finance scheme
Admission under self-finance scheme are offered in first year for the same disciplines as in regular with the same academic qualifications as required for regular scheme on 60 additional seats for Pakistani nationals and 20 reserved seats for foreign candidates belonging to oversees Islamic/friendly countries. BSc degree and diploma holders are not eligible under self-finance scheme. One application form can be used for both the schemes - regular and self-finance.
Application forms duly completed in all respects and attached with bank draft or pay order of Rs200,000 by Pakistani nationals and bank draft or pay order of Rs300,000 by foreigners drawn in favour of DCET principal should be submitted in the designated branch of the bank by Dec 20.
The venues for the pre-admission tests will be Mohammad Ali Jinnah University, PECHS campus, Karachi and Mohammad Ali Jinnah University, Blue Area campus, Islamabad.
All eligible candidates shall have to appear in pre-admission test for which they will be required to deposit a pay order or bank draft of Rs400 for Karachi venue and Rs500 for Islamabad venue in favour of Mohammad Ali Jinnah University.
DCET Registrar Rana Singh Rajput said incomplete application forms would not be entertained.
He said admission cards for entry test must be obtained from the designated bank branches at the time of submission of application forms.
He said forms and prospectus could be received from the designated branches of National Bank of Pakistan located in Karachi, Hyderabad, Nawabshah, Sukkur, Larkana, Lahore, Multan, Faisalabad, Islamabad, Muzaffarabad, Peshawar, Abbotabad and Quetta.—PPI
